Wet walls above the waterline
Drywall wicks water upward, so readings are wet well above the visible stain.
In Union County, the rivers set the calendar. The Rahway and the Elizabeth have both flooded homes in recent storms, and the mold work that follows is most of what we do here.
Answering 24/7 from our Johnson St office in Newark
In Union County, NJ our mold work is shaped by the Rahway and Elizabeth rivers: basement and ground-floor flooding, sewage backups during storms, and mold in walls that were not dried in time. We extract and dry, remove what the water ruined, and test before rebuild, working from our Newark office a short drive north.
The 82 square mile Rahway River basin covers much of Union County, and Ida caused severe flooding in at least eight of its communities, including Cranford, Rahway, Springfield, Westfield and Union Township. In Cranford, residents along the river spent the days after Ida dragging waterlogged belongings to the curb and dealing with sewers that backed up into their basements.
In Elizabeth, the Elizabeth River overflowed during the same storm, garden-level apartments along it took 8 to 10 feet of water, and about 600 residents were displaced. After flooding on that scale, walls and floors that look dry often are not.

See the jobAfter a river flood, we start by measuring how high the water went and reading above that line, because water wicks up drywall and into insulation. We separate what took clean water from what took river water or sewage, since the cleanup standard is different.
Contents get sorted before they go to the curb, and we photograph everything for the insurance file before anything is moved.
